Sensitive and direct determination of lithium by mixed-mode chromatography and charged aerosol detection

Abstract: A sensitive analytical method using mixed mode HPLC separation coupled with charged aerosol detection (CAD) was developed for quantitative analysis of lithium. The method is capable of separating lithium ion from different drug matrices and other ions in a single run thus eliminating the organic matrix and ionic analyte interferences without extensive sample preparation such as derivatization and extraction. The separation space and chromatographic conditions are defined by systematic studies of the retention … Show more

“…The main goal of this study was to develop alternative stability‐indicating HPLC methods for topiramate and its DPs for detection by CAD that would reduce the total number of methods (four HPLC methods) and the total number of detectors (two detectors, refractive index (RI), and conductivity) required by USP for the analysis of the topiramate raw material. The ATP1 column was chosen for this study due to its superior performance in comparison with other multimodal chromatographic columns and its successful application to the simultaneous separation of drugs and counterions with a broad range of hydrophobicity . Several chromatographic conditions were evaluated for topiramate and its DP (Table ).…”

“…Li concentrations can be determined using different analytical techniques such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) or by ion-selective electrodes [ 15 ]. Of these, the ICP-MS technique is a sensitive method that was frequently used for determination of elements from various types of samples, such as water, wine, saliva, blood, urine, plant, sediment, and rocks [ 2 ].…”
