SeMFIS: A flexible engineering platform for semantic annotations of conceptual models

Abstract: In this paper, we present SeMFIS-a flexible engineering platform for semantic annotations of conceptual models. Conceptual models have been used in the past for many purposes in the context of information systems' engineering. These purposes include for example the elicitation of requirements, the simulation of the behavior of future information systems, the generation of code or the interaction with information systems through models at runtime. Semantic annotations of conceptual models constitute a recently … Show more

“…Examples include the technique of visual semantic zooming recently proposed by Yoon and Myers for better understanding and interacting with changes in program code (Yoon and Myers 2015) or approaches for recording, processing, and visualizing changes in diagrams (Maier and Minas 2015). Semantic annotations (Fill 2016) can be a means of assistance and distinct development languages (Fill et al 2012) ease the development of domain-specific modeling tools.…”

“…Second, consider the issue of semantic annotation or metadata. It (semantic annotation or metadata) has become a crucial issue due to the advent of web technology, and many authors have contributed toward semantic annotation or metadata [37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45]. The fact of the matter is that the new web technology called Semantic Web (SW) [46] is in the process of replacing its predecessor.…”

“…In many cases, so-called domain-specific conceptual modeling languages are created, whose concepts are tailored towards particular application domains [21]. This includes for example modeling languages for supporting business process improvement [22], for integrating semantic technologies in information systems [23], [24], for managing risks [25], [26] or for designing productservice systems [27].…”
