The objective of this paper is to report a set of experiences of applying participative enterprise modeling in different organizational contexts. While the authors have successfully applied the approach in many organizations, the paper primarily concentrates on three cases. On the basis of these experiences the paper presents a set of generic principles for applying participative enterprise modeling.

Capability Driven Development: An Approach to Designing Digital EnterprisesAbstract. The need for organizations to operate in changing environments is addressed by proposing an approach that integrates organizational development with information system (IS) development taking into account changes in the application context of the solution. This is referred to as Capability Driven Development (CDD). A meta-model representing business and IS designs consisting of goals, key performance indicators, capabilities, context and capability delivery patterns, is being proposed. The use of the meta-model is validated in three industrial case studies as part of an ongoing collaboration project, whereas one case is presented in the paper. Issues related to the use of the CDD approach, namely, CDD methodology and tool support are also discussed.
Nowadays, many ontologies are used in industry, public adminstration and academia. Although these ontologies are developed for various purposes and domains, they often contain overlapping information. To build a collaborative semantic web, which allows data to be shared and reused across applications, enterprises, and community boundaries, it is necessary to find ways to compare, match and integrate various ontologies. Different strategies (e.g., string similarity, synonyms, structure similarity and based on instances) for determining similarity between entities are used in current ontology matching systems. Synonyms can help to solve the problem of using different terms in the ontologies for the same concept. The WordNet thesauri can support improving similarity measures. This paper provides an overview of how to apply WordNet in the ontology matching research area.
The benefits of enterprise modeling (EM) and its contribution to organizational tasks are largely undisputed in business and information systems engineering. EM as a discipline has been around for several decades but is typically performed by a limited number of people in organizations with an affinity to modeling. What is captured in models is only a fragment of what ought to be captured. Thus, this research note argues that EM is far from its maximum potential. Many people develop some kind of model in their local practice without thinking about it consciously. Exploiting the potential of this ''grass roots modeling'' could lead to groundbreaking innovations. The aim is to investigate integration of the established practices of modeling with local practices of creating and using model-like artifacts of relevance for the overall organization. The paper develops a vision for extending the reach of EM, identifies research areas contributing to the vision and proposes elements of a future research agenda.
Digitalization is currently the most important driver of economic growth. Inspired by increasing digital networking and smart automation possibilities, omnipresent access technologies and dynamic customer requirements, modern enterprises work more and more on additional and new digital business models. The aim is to exploit potentials for new and especially digital business models much faster and to cope with the resulting challenges. This requires a technical integration of different disciplines, new qualification profiles and new methodical approaches. The paper proposes the aggregation of selected approaches from the areas of digital business model development, capability management and enterprise architecture management as a methodical basis for the training profile of a "Digital Business Architect" and "Digital Innovation and Transformation Process (DITP)".
