Semantic web technologies for ubiquitous computing resource management in smart spaces

Abstract: Context-aware ubiquitous computing environments tend to be highly distributed and heterogeneous, while also featuring increased dynamism as elements, devices and middleware components join, leave and change their status. In such environments, information is derived and fused with numerous sensors and context-aware middleware components. As a result, directory and naming services, along with reasoning mechanisms, are at the heart of any non-trivial ubiquitous computing application. In this paper, we argue that … Show more

“…Semantic smart home, a conceptual architecture for semantic smart homes focusing on the methodology of semantic modeling, content generation and management is discussed in [25]. In addition, a semantic space model employing semantic Web technology to facilitate the integration of hardware and middleware elements in the scope of ubiquitous computing is introduced in [26]. For these semantic based systems, context modeling, semantic representation, query, and reasoning through Resource Description Framework (RDF) scheme and Web Ontology Language (OWL) have become popular research topics.…”

“…Furthermore, the CHIL Agent Framework has specialized agents which are either pending on requests by other agents, or continuously "scout" the network for critical conditions, such as the failure of an agent, and act accordingly. Moreover, the CHIL Framework has three types of management services, not only on the sensor and agent level (using each middleware's management tools), but also using the Smart Space Resource Manager (SSRM) [49], which monitors and controls the whole infrastructure such as the perceptual components, sensors, and actuating services available. One additional usage of the SSRM is to facilitate the deployment of the services by providing an overview of the current perceptive capabilities of the smart space in terms of sensing and actuating equipment as well as the presence of context-acquisition components.…”

“…Использование модели контекста является основным требованием тех-нологии всеобъемлющих вычислений (ubiquitous computing) [11], которая за-нимается организацией взаимодействия между разнородными устройствами и широко используется в интеллектуальных пространствах. Для того чтобы контекст был понятен ресурсам интеллектуального пространства, для его представления используются онтологические модели [12].…”
