Self-Efficacy, Affective Well-Being, and Intent-to-Leave by Science and Mathematics Teachers: A Structural Equation Model

Abstract: The current research aims to explore the impact of Science and Mathematics teachers’ self-efficacy on their intentions to leave through the mediating effects of their affective wellbeing (stress, burnout, and depression). Data were collected from 329 teachers of Science and Mathematics who were selected randomly with a clustered sampling method from 232 secondary schools in South and East Anatolia, Turkey. The structural equation model that yielded the best fit indicated that as teachers’ self-efficacy levels … Show more

“…Thus, the implementation of functional, adaptive and proactive strategies by teachers to cope with burnout has been shown to be very useful, especially in the early stages of teacher training to reduce levels of stress and burnout (Väisänen et al, 2018). Instruction and implementation of strategies based on positive beliefs and affectivity has also been associated with lower stress levels (Karakus et al, 2021).…”

“…This study uses a survey-based correlational research design with an inquiry model structural approach (Karakus et al, 2021). This study aims to analyze the effect of mathematical resilience and habit of mind on the sociomathematical norms of senior high school students in DKI Jakarta.…”

“…The use of SmartPLS software is because it is appropriate for analyzing a research model that integrates empirical theory and facts (Wong, 2013). Before testing the hypothesis, convergent validity and reliability tests were first carried out, as well as the discriminant external model (Karakus et al, 2021). Hypothesis testing was carried out to examine the relationship between latent variables, namely mathematical resilience, habits of mind and sociomathematical norms.…”

“…A SEM may replace regression analysis, analysis of variance, correspondence analysis, factor analysis and cluster analysis to clarify the roles of individual indicators on the total and their interactions with one another [18]. In structural equation modelling, variables that cannot be measured directly and accurately are called latent variables and are measured indirectly through external indicators [19].…”
