Show more

“…In addition, a clinical study [Rijkho¡ et al, 1997[Rijkho¡ et al, , 1998] has shown similar results in patients. The study by Wip£er et al [1997] is almost identical to the present one but is not cited. The paper by Brindley and Craggs [1980] is cited but only to conclude that the introduction of the stimulation technique in clinical practice is imminent.…”

“…Here they failed to cite prior published work. Both acute [Wip£er et al, 1997] as well as chronic [Brindley and Craggs, 1980] animal experiments already showed that book electrodes could be used for selective detrusor activation. In addition, a clinical study [Rijkho¡ et al, 1997[Rijkho¡ et al, , 1998] has shown similar results in patients.…”

“…Brindley and Craggs used a tripolar electrode and speci¢c parameters for an e¡ec-tive block, but they needed enormous current ( 29 mA) or voltage ( 40 V). Wip£er et al [1997] used the Brindley tripolar electrode and modi¢ed the parameters, with a 64^100% success rate, as Sweeney and Mortimer [1986] had done. Schumacher et al [1999] worked successfully with a cryo block to create temporary pudendal-nerve blockade, but in our laboratory this technique proved unfeasible for chronic implant.…”

“…These stimulate other nerve ¢bers, which can be excluded by the``cleaner''sinusoidal signal for more precise organ selectivity. Modi¢cations of the common rectangular pulse, such as the saw-tooth pulse or the QT signal, are needed to make it more selective [Wip£er et al, 1997].…”
