Saudi higher education recognizes the importance of teaching and learning the English language, leading to the establishment of several academic English departments to fulfill national needs. Mastery of English in an EFL (English as a foreign language) context requires more frequent language use, both inside and outside the classroom domain. Current research suggests that investigations into Saudi students’ English language use inside the classroom have been addressed, but outside its boundaries and at the department level have yet to be addressed. This study aimed to address that gap to provide insights into female learners’ perspectives on the Saudi EFL learning environment. It adopted a mixed-methods approach for data collection. A seven-item survey with an open-ended section was filled out by Saudi female students (n = 381) studying in English departments nationwide. Additionally, semi-structured interviews with two questions were conducted with BA and MA English students (n = 10). The findings reveal the failure of Saudi English departments to provide students with the English practice opportunities they need and learners’ dissatisfaction with the current learning environment. The implications of the study include the urgent need for decision-makers to intervene and change the current status quo.

English reflexive anaphora in cases of VP-ellipsis may allow for strict and sloppy readings. A few L2 studies (Epoge, 2012; Park, 2016; Ying, 2005) have focused on determining the role that L2 proficiency may exert on learners’ choices in bare, referential, and non-referential contexts. This paper provides data from 104 Spanish learners of English (A2, B1, and B2 levels) and 32 native speakers of English. Results showed that participants tended to interpret reflexives sloppily in bare and non-referential contexts, whereas strict readings prevailed in referential ones. There existed significant differences in the interpretation of learners versus native speakers, whilst the differences among the three learner groups were not so marked. However, the least proficient group differed most from native speakers. Findings partially confirm previous research and discrepancies may be tentatively ascribed to extraneous variables (e.g., the learners’ L1, the range of the proficiency levels, or the characteristics of the control groups).

Background: The study which consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical ones, and contains the analysis of the concept of insurance service quality in relation to travel insurance by employees of insurance institutions as well as by individual customers. Methods: The research was conducted by means of the SERVQUAL method among individual customers who hold travel insurance contracts in Świętokrzyskie, Małopolskie Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodships. The aim of the study was to identify the factors of travel insurance service quality in the conditions of the changing tourist market in Poland, as well as to define the hierarchy of their importance. Result: Moreover, on the basis of the SERVQUAL method, some discrepancies were established between customer expectations and the perceived services. This study is a continuation of the research conducted and another study of the series of studies of service quality in the market of property insurance in the voivodeships of eastern Poland.
