The purpose of research is to increase the ore mass extraction ratio when mining rich iron ores by changing the shape of the stope chamber, as well as to substantiate its stable parameters under the conditions of the rock pressure manifestation. Used in mines existing methodologies for determining the structural elements of mining system are based on calculated equivalent spans of outcropping the stope chambers, which have a rectangular or tent shape. For the first time using the ANSYS software package, it has been determined that the formation of a compensation chamber of quasi-parabolic shape can significantly reduce the stresses concentration around the stope block. Thus, the formation of a stope chamber of a quasi-parabolic shape makes it possible to reduce vertical stresses as compared to horizontal ones without increasing horizontal pressure. When mining the extraction block, it is proposed to form the stope chamber of a quasi-parabolic shape with geometric parameters that directly depend on the parameters of the deposit, the depth of mining, and the direction of main stresses action. Dependences have been determined of the stresses value on the depth of mining and the physical properties of rocks, as well as on the length along the strike of the ore deposit. Thus, depending on the mining depth and length along the strike, rock pressure on the stope chamber of a quasi-parabolic shape decreases under non-uniform loading. The formation of a stope chamber of a quasi-parabolic shape will increase by 1.2 – 1.5 times the volume of pure ore that is recovered from the block.

Purpose. Study the movement of waste rock flows in the coal mine technological system and determine the balance of rocks and underground cavities formation from the perspective of the current mining operations development in order to assess the possibility of leaving the rock in the underground area. Methods. Based on the rank order of the Western Donbass mines, a coal mine has been chosen as the object of research in terms of maximum output and ash content. An algorithm is proposed for analytical studies of determining the rock outcrop in the course of stope, drifting and repair operations, as well as the prospective volumes of underground cavities for placing the formed waste rocks per a calendar year. The algorithm is based on the actual state of mining operations and the indicators of the stope and drifting faces of the mine, as well as the achieved modern mining-engineering parameters of the coal seams mining. Findings. It has been revealed that the main supply of waste rocks to the surface occurs as a result of stope operations with rock undercut -39% and underground mine workings -33%. It is proposed to differentiate all waste rock outcropped after mining operations into 2 categories: difficult to dispose of and prospective for disposal. It has been found that underground cavities have enormous potential for stockpiling of all waste rocks, the volume of which is by 2.8-4.8 times higher than the rock volume. It has been revealed that the most rational balance of waste rocks and cavities for leaving the rock in the mine is formed along the С 10 t seam. It has been determined that the full-fledged placement of rocks is limited by the scheduling peculiarities of mining the reserves along the seams, which are made for the complete cave-in technology of coal mining. Originality. For the first time, for one of the Western Donbass mines, the balance of formed waste rocks and potential underground cavities, dynamically changing in time and space, has been determined. Practical implications. The results obtained are useful for engineering new spatial planning solutions for the optimal development of mining operations with the maximum possible rocks stockpiling in the underground area of mines.

Enhancement of the technology of mining steep ore bodies applying the “floating” crown

When mining ore bodies in Kryvyi Rih iron ore basin, underground mines apply open stoping or bulk caving systems in proportion of 55% to 45%. Most of underground mines prefer stoping with pillar caving. Yet, rock pressure contributes to growth of costs for workings maintenance and deterioration of extraction indices. Rock mass extraction indices can be enhanced by application of a protectve structure in the upper part of the block that will enable additional decrease in load on the draw level. There are a great many of methods for determining parameters of constructive elements of the protective structure that help keep its integrity for the whole period of block mining. The article suggests methods for determining parameters of the protective structure when mining steep ore bodies. The research conducted demonstrates that with the inclined protective structure, increase of unit load on it from 200 to 1200t/m2 leads to decrease of its thickness from 6.3-20.9m to 5.5-18.4m and increase of the crown length from 40m to 60m. The developed block caving system with application of the protective structure when mining steep ore bodies enables overall decrease of ore dilution in the block by 3%, increase of iron content in the mined ore by 1.3% without significant mining costs growth and decrease of loads on the workings of the receiving level.
