Selective areain situconversion of Si (0 0 1) hydrophobic to hydrophilic surface by excimer laser irradiation in hydrogen peroxide

Abstract: We report on a method of rapid conversion of a hydrophobic to hydrophilic state of an Si (0 0 1) surface irradiated with a relatively low number of pulses of an excimer laser. Hydrophilic Si (0 0 1), characterized by the surface contact angle (CA) of near 15 • , is fabricated following irradiation with either KrF or ArF excimer lasers of hydrophobic samples (CA ∼ 75 •) immersed in a 0.01% H 2 O 2 /H 2 O solution. The chemical and structural analysis carried with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic forc… Show more

“…Treated parent KCC-1 and metal oxide loaded KCC-1 displayed sharp bands at 3740 and 3735 cm –1 with a small band around 3655 cm –1 (Figure A). Peaks at 3740 and 3735 cm –1 were ascribed to terminal and geminal silanol groups, while the band at 3655 cm –1 showed the existence of H-bonded hydroxyls. Peaks ascribed to the stretching vibration of structural OH and nonacidic or inaccessible OH were also found at 3675 and 3633 cm –1 . , The same trend was found by Long et al, where a nonacidic hydroxyl band formed after calcination at 773 K . Upon introduction of metal oxide, the peak shifted to 3735 cm –1 due to elimination of some of the 3740 cm –1 peak by perturbation of the silica framework.…”

“…In agreement with the Si 2p core level spectrum, the rst peak was attributed to the O-Si in the bridging of the Si-O-Si segments, 68,74,75 while the second peak was attributed to the terminal hydroxyl groups in the aerogel bulk (Si-O-H). 66,75,76 The O 1s core level spectra of the GnP-modied PE-b-Si provided more insights into the mechanism of the GnP interaction with the PE-b-Si matrix (Fig. 8).…”
