Selective and Sensitive Detection of Cyanide Based on the Displacement Strategy Using a Water-Soluble Fluorescent Probe

Abstract: A water-soluble fluorescent probe (C-GGH) was used for the highly sensitive and selective detection of cyanide (CN−) in aqueous media based on the displacement strategy. Due to the presence of the recognition unit GGH (Gly-Gly-His), the probe C-GGH can coordinate with Cu2+ and consequently display ON-OFF type fluorescence response. Furthermore, the in situ formed nonfluorescent C-GGH-Cu2+ complex can act as an effective OFF-ON type fluorescent probe for sensing CN− anion. Due to the strong binding affinity of … Show more

“…A common class of ion selective materials are known as ionophores. Despite there being many known ionophores showing specific anion interactions [91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99], there are some limitations to their use in practical devices. These limitations are listed below [100];…”

“…In recent years, colorimetric and fluorescent probes have become an effective analytical tool due to unique capability for sensitive monitoring of metal ions [1,2], anions [3,4], reactive oxygen species [5,6] and biomolecules [7,8]. Among the various chromophore scaffolds, lactam derivatives of rhodamines represent one of the most developed platform for the design of selective colorimetric and fluorescent probes due to their high extinction coefficients, high quantum yields, and excellent chemical and photostability [9,10].…”

“…It is known that substances containing cyanide are extremely toxic for physiological systems and therefore methods for cyanide ions detection have been under considerable research [10,11]. Optical sensing is mainly based on detecting binding sites of C-C, C-N etc.…”
