Selective Adsorbents from Ordered Mesoporous Silica

Abstract: Ordered mesoporous silica adsorbents were prepared by grafting amino- and carboxylic-containing functional groups onto MCM-41 for the removal of Acid blue 25 and Methylene blue dyes from wastewater. The amino-containing OMS−NH2 adsorbent has a large adsorption capacity and a strong affinity for the Acid blue 25. It can selectively remove Acid blue 25 from a mixture of dyes (i.e., Acid blue 25 and Methylene blue). The OMS−COOH is a good adsorbent for Methylene blue displaying excellent adsorption capacity and s… Show more

“…The maximum adsorption capacities of MB onto Fe 3 O 4 /mSiO 2 -C 18 sorbent obtained from Langmuir equation at 25°C, 35°C and 45°C are 363.64 mg g À1 , 287.35 mg g À1 and 213.68 mg g À1 , respectively, with the adsorption equilibrium constants of 0.256 L mg À1 , 0.131 L mg À1 , and 0.127 L mg À1 . These values are superior to or comparable with those in most of the related works reported previously [10,22,30,[42][43][44][45][46] except for the porous magnetic carbon sheet [47] (Table S1). The Freundlich adsorption intensity parameters are higher than 1.5, also demonstrating the strong adsorption trend of MB onto the sorbent.…”

“…Thus, accessibility of contaminants to the reaction site should be improved using support material such as meso-macroporous silica. 15 The catalytic assays were performed onto iron oxide@meso-macroporous silica with hexagonally ordered mesopores that has the highest iron content This phenomenon is well documented in the literature 36 and it is driven by both electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions between the silica surface and the MB.…”

“…Functionalization of the solid supports can be realized by functional silane coupling reagents. The polysiloxane sorbents functionalized with mercapto and amine groups are revealed in the literature as effective in the removal of metal ions [20][21][22][23][24][25][26] and Hg(II) [27,28]. In addition, bifunctional sorbents containing two functionalities (amine and mercapto) on the same sorbent had been prepared and used for the removal of metal ions [29].…”
