Seismology Based Ground Motion Attenuation Relationship for Sendai Area

Abstract: For regions without adequate strong ground motion records, a method is developed to establish strong ground motion attenuation relationships, based on the stochastic method. Sendai area of Japan is selected as the target, since there are enough data from seismographic observation for calculation, and those from strong ground motion observation and some empirical relationships for result testing. Three parameters related to regional source and crustal medium are inversed by the micro-Genetic Algorithm. Total of… Show more

“…It emphasizes the important consensus that "point source model is suitable for medium and small earthquakes as well as far-field ground motion estimation, while the finite fault model is suitable for predicting near-field strong ground motion" [8], and a regional hybrid attenuation relation is established. The point source model used in this study has carried out a lot of relevant researches on the attenuation relationship of regional small and medium-sized earthquakes, which lays the foundation of mixed attenuation relationship [9]. In fact, it is more important to study and establish of the source model of regional strong earthquake finite fault, which is also the main content of this paper.…”
