SEDG: Scalable and Efficient Data Gathering Routing Protocol for Underwater WSNs

Abstract: In recent years, the use of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) along a constrained path can improve the data delivery ratio and maximize the energy efficiency in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs). However, constant speed of AUV leads to limited communication to collect data packet from nodes deployed randomly in large scalable network. Moreover, the excessive number of associated nodes with Gateway Node (GN) causes to quick depletion of its energy, thus lead to hot spot problem. This poses prominent… Show more

“…UWSN is also widely used in underwater oil and gas pipeline corrosion detection and military security applications. In order to design an efficient UWSN routing protocol, researchers face many challenges which attenuate the medium, such as node mobility, end-to-end propagation delay, and energy saving [55]. Table 7, depicts the example of the real-time applications for underwater sensor networks.…”

“…Localization is a phenomenon in which the location of node is already known to other nodes and sinks, which make it easier for sink to locate and communicate it. Multiple schemes like area based scheme, area localization scheme, and hop count based scheme have been discussed [36]. In Energy-Efficient Dynamic Address Based (EE-DAB) routing [37] every node is assigned Node-ID, S-HopID, and C-HopID.…”
