Each ewe yielded 400-1,500 ml. milk per day, Sulphamerazine was dissolved in distilled water by heating and simultaneous addition of 5 N NaOH. Summary The half‐lives of sulphamerazine after intravenous, intramuscular and oral administration were estimated in sheep. The half‐lives indicated the presence of two phases, α and ß. The absorption phase (α) following oral and intramuscular routes was calculated as 180 ± 9 and 52 ± 4 minutes, respectively, whereas the distribution phase (α) after intravenous injection was 48 ± 4 minutes. The elimination half‐life (ß phase) in plasma was 340 ± 8 to 452 ± 10 minutes. The apparent volumes of distribution were 0.58 ± 0.05, 0.46 ± 0.03 and 0.73 ± 0.08 after intravenous, intramuscular and oral administration, respectively. Excretion of sulphamerazine from the body was almost complete in 3 days from administration. Acetylation of this drug occurred only to a slight extent in sheep; only small amounts were detected in plasma, urine and milk. Intramammary infusion gave rapid absorption with an average half‐life period of 135.5 ± 11.4 minutes. Zusammenfassung Halbwertszeit, Distributionsvolumen und Acetylierung von Sulphamerazin beim Schaf Beim Schaf wurden die Halbwertszeiten von Sulphamerazin nach intravenöser, intramuskulärer und peroraler Applikation bestimmt. Die Halbwertszeiten sprechen für das Bestehen von 2 Phasen (α und ß‐Phase). Die Absorptionsphase (α) nach oraler bzw. intramuskulärer Applikation betrug 180 ± 9 bzw. 52 ± 4 min. Nach intravenöser Injektion betrug die α‐Phase 48 ± 4 min. Die Eliminations‐Halbwertszeit (ß‐Phase) für Plasma betrug 340 ± 8 bis 452 ± 10 min. Für das apparente Distributionsvolumen ergaben sich folgende Werte: Intravenöse Applikation 0,58 ± 0,05; intramuskuläre Applikation 0,46 ± 0,03; perorale Applikation 0,73 ± 0,08. 3 Tage nach der Verabreichung war die Sulphamerazin‐Ausscheidung praktisch vollständig. Sulphamerazin wird beim Schaf nur in geringem Mass acetyliert, denn es konnten nur kleine Mengen davon im Plasma, Urin und Milch gefunden werden. Intramammäre Infusion ergab eine rasche Absorption mit einer Halbwertszeit von 135 ± 11,4 min. Résumé Demi‐temps de valeur, volume de distribution et acétylation de la sulphamérazine chez le mouton On a déterminé les demi‐temps de valeur de la sulphamérazine chez le mouton après une application intraveineuse, intramusculaire et par voie orale. Les demi‐temps de valeur ont dévilé l'existence de 2 phases (α et ß). La phase d'absorption (α) après une application orale et intramusculaire a donné 180 ± 9 et 52 ± 4 min. La phase α fut de 48 ± 4 min. après une injection intraveineuse. Le demi‐temps de valeur pour l'élimination (phase ß) fut de 340 ± 8 à 452 ± 10 min. pour le plasma. Les valeurs suivantes ont été obtenues pour le volume de distribution apparent: application intraveineuse 0,58 ± 0,05; intramusculaire 0,46 ± 0,03; par voie orale 0,73 ± 0,08.
