Three new N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine Cd(II) coordination polymers, namely, {[Cd(AMPPA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]Á(NO 3 ) 2 ÁH 2 O} n (1), {[Cd (AMPPA) 2 (ipa)]Á2H 2 O} n (2) and {[Cd(AMPPA) 2 (Hbtc)]Á 2H 2 O} n (3) (AMPPA = N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine, H 2 ipa = isophthalic acid and H 3 btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that complex 1 exhibits one dimension (1D) coordination polymers when only the AMPPA ligand was employed. With the introduction of the building blocks (H 2 ipa and H 3 btc) into the reaction system of 1, complexes 2 with 2D layer and 3 with 3D networks were isolated, respectively. The effect of the building blocks in the construction of complexes 1-3 has been discussed. In addition, all complexes display strong luminescence in the solid state. Graphical Abstract Three N-(5-Amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine cadmium coordination polymers have been designed and isolated by the introduction of the building blocks of H 2 ipa and H 3 btc featuring 1D chain, 2D layer and 3D network with strong luminescence in the solid state.
