Secondary Metabolites from the Endophytic Fungus Xylaria sp. hg1009

Abstract: A detailed chemical investigation of the secondary metabolites produced by the endophytic fungus Xylaria sp. isolated from the stems of Isodon sculponeatus afforded six new compounds, xylariahgins A–F (1–6), two new natural products (7 and 8), along with two known compounds (9 and 10) (Fig. 1). The structures of all compounds were unambiguously established by analyzing their spectroscopic data or referring to pertinent literature. Compounds 1–8 were tested for their cytotoxic activity against five human tumor … Show more

“…Another occurrence of pyranones was reported from an endophytic Xylaria sp. and named Xylariahgins A ( 42 )–F [ 64 ]. An assessment of their cytotoxicity against human tumor cell lines such as HL-60, A-549, and MCF-7 was unsuccessful.…”

“…Diels, which may participate in the host defense system because its secondary metabolites exhibit moderate and broad-spectrum antibacterial activities. 67 Dothideomycetes has been reported to enhance plant drought resistance and promote plant growth by improving antioxidant enzyme activity in Citrus reticulata L. 68 The fungal endophyte Penicillium has been reported to positively enhance host tolerance to heavy metal stress and increase nutrient absorption. 69,70 Foliar application of ZnO QDs could help to enrich a variety of beneficial endophytic colonizing fungi in pumpkin and producing direct (e.g., promoting nutrient bioaccessibility and plant hormone production) and indirect benefits (e.g., induced resistance, production of antibiotics and secondary metabolites, improved tolerances to abiotic and biotic stresses) that promoted overall plant health.…”

“…Xylariahgin F ( 210 ) was isolated from the Isodon sculponeatus -derived fungus Xylaria sp. [ 66 ]. Two new compounds, including (4 S )-3,4-dihydro-4-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-3-oxo-1H-pyrrolo [2,1- c ][1,4]oxazine-6-carbaldehyde ( 211 ) and methyl (2 S )-2-[2-formyl-5-(hydroxymethyl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl]-3-(4-hydr-oxyphenyl)propanate ( 212 ), were isolated from the Wuling Shen-derived fungus Xylaria nigripes [ 67 ].…”
