“…A study in Colombia by Molina et al assessed the associations between climate phenomenon and the prevalence of sandflies using regression modelling. 22 Their results showed that there were strong positive associations between the presence of sandflies, maximum temperature and relative humidity. Cross and Hyams did a laboratory simulation test about the influence of temperature on sandflies, and according to this test all sandflies died within 2 h when temperatures exceeded 40 ∘ C. 23 It was also concluded that sandflies could hardly survive when the temperature is lower than 10 ∘ C. Larvae of sandflies are very sensitive to high temperature and low humidity, and die if the temperature is high and the humidity is less than 33%.…”
