Seasonal Trends of Aerosol Hygroscopicity and Mixing State in Clean Marine and Polluted Continental Air Masses Over the Northeast Atlantic

Abstract:  Marine aerosol showed the highest hygroscopicity during the wintertime while polluted aerosol shown highest in the summertime. Marine aerosols were externally mixed in the wintertime and internally mixed in the summertime. A subset of near-hydrophobic particle observed in marine environments was likely to be of biogenic origin based on air mass clustering.

“…Although it is also one of the key factors affecting aerosol activation to become CCN, the particle mixing state will cause differences in the concentration of CCN ( N CCN ) prediction due to the changes in component (Gaston et al., 2018; Hughes et al., 2018; Ma et al., 2017; Miao et al., 2015; Stevens & Dastoor, 2019; Vu et al., 2019; Xu, Ovadnevaite, et al., 2021; Z.
