“…This can be as the ratio of deaths in the first quarter of the year to the third quarter, 2 a comparison of the number of deaths from December to March with those in the remaining 8 months of the year 4,13,22 or as the amplitude of a fitted cosine curve. 3,9,10 The first two methods involve predetermining where the peak in mortality is expected to occur while with the simple cosinor analysis there are often too few data points and no adjustment for the fact that the data are Poisson.…”

“…6 Seasonal distribution of drowning deaths is similar to what is found in other countries: the majority of the deaths occurred during warm months, from June to August (sports activities and accidents). 12,13 It is somewhat unusual that during the winter period suicide was the most frequent cause of drowning deaths. In Hungary the typical way of committing suicide was jumping into wells.…”

“…According to Becker and Weng (1998), deaths exhibit a seasonal pattern in most parts of the world; people drown mostly at the beginning of the summer and drownings carrying on during the warm months (Tapadinhas et al, 2002). In the U.S. generally, 60% of all drownings occur in the summer months (Moler, 1993).…”

“…Drowning deaths exhibit a seasonal pattern in most parts of the world (Avramidis & Butterly, 2008;Becker & Weng, 1998). While drowning seems to be more prevalent in warmer climates year round, the drowning rates in temperate and colder climates occur mainly during the warmer summer months (i.e., June, July, August in the Northern Hemisphere and December, January, February in the Southern Hemisphere; see Manolios & Mackie, 1988; Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, 2001).…”
