Seasonal dynamics of surface energy fluxes over a center-pivot irrigated cropland in Saudi Arabia

Abstract: Aim: This study focused on the seasonal dynamics of energy fluxes over selected agro ecosystems (alfalfa and corn crops) to understand the role of energy partitioning in determining the mechanisms controlling the crop water requirement and irrigation schedules. Interpretation: There was contrasting variations in sensible heat and latent heat fluxes across seasons and corresponding to the changing climate and surface conditions of the field. In the case of silage corn, the proportions of partitioned energy to s… Show more

“…Studies have shown that water vapor flux and VPD (vapor pressure difference) have a certain quadratic curve relationship: water vapor flux first increases with the increase of VPD, then decreases with increase of VPD, as shown in Fig. 5 (Wang, 2011;Madugundu et al, 2017). VPD can represent the relationship between air drying degree and transpiration, the drier the air is, the more conducive to vegetation transpiration.…”

“…Proximal sensors collect data from a distance less than 2 m from the target (e.g., soil or canopy) [5]. The most widely used proximal sensors in PA are yield monitors, weather stations [6], soil apparent electrical conductivity sensors [7] and vegetation spectroradiometers [8]. Proximal data provided by tractor-embedded sensors can be used to detect indirect suitable information to manage field variability (e.g., speed, engine power supplied, fuel Agronomy 2021, 11, 2098 2 of 20 consumption).…”

“…Research is also done for the development of new highly performing materials, especially with biodegradable properties [9], in accordance with a common attention for the environment [10]. The growing attention on environment [11][12] has brought noticeable drawbacks in the development or evolution of treatments with sustainable management approaches [13], optimized treatments and fertilizers distributions [7,14], organic productions and in general products, which are less impacting on soil, air and water [15][16][17]. Reduction of impacts passes through the optimization of energy resources: many works have been recently done to find new resources [18; 19] and to minimize energy consumptions related to different agricultural processes [20].…”
