Seamless Control of Solar PV Grid Interfaced System With Islanding Operation

Abstract: This paper presents a robust control strategy for a solar photovoltaic (PV)-based distributed generation system (DGS) with seamless transition capabilities from islanded to the grid-connected mode and vice versa. The proposed DGS consists of a solar PV array, a dc-dc boost converter, voltage source converter (VSC), and local nonlinear loads. In grid-connected mode, VSC regulates the dc-link voltage and the boost converter operates the solar PV array at the maximum power point. Moreover, the load reactive power… Show more

“…Frequency fluctuations in electricity grids occurred due to unequal capacity from generation to charge because of varying demand profiles and the irregular presence of renewable sources of energy. The microgrid condition is also exacerbated by a low inertia and the small-time constant [49]. In addition, certain electronic power interfaces will require the use of different distributed generators such as solar, wind, etc in the micro-grid structure.…”

“…Numerous methods using different techniques for synchronization and grid-voltage monitoring have been presented in the technical literature about DPGS. Most of these studies are related to three-phase systems [22,28,58,59] than to single-phase applications [60,61]. Some of the methods are not always categorized properly, thus leading to confusion.…”

“…Environmental disasters in particular have made people acutely aware of the negative consequences of using and depending upon fossil fuels as a species. So, tremendous steps have been and are still being taken, by the owners of the power generating stations to switch over to alternative energy sources [1,2]. Te challenges regarding the use of this cleaner, alternative source as a major source of energy remains its intermittent nature, as well as the low power generating capacity of the technology [3].…”
