Retroperitoneal Lymphoma Involving Pancreas – Complementary Radionuclide Scan and Ultrasonography

“…The Anger multiplane tomographic scanner has been re cently introduced and used clinically to differentiate superficial from deep foci of radioactive concentration [7], The mechanism for the localisation of Se-75 SM is not clear. Incorporation of SM into pathways of normal protein meta bolism has been well documented, and the process whereby the labeled amino acid enters cells may involve active oxid ative metabolism [8]. PENNER's electrophoretic studies of plasma after injection of Se-75 methionine showed the radioactive tag in relation to serum globulins, which might partially explain the affinity of reticuloendothelial tissue derivatives for the amino acid [9], Whole body autoradiograph of rats, after an i. v. dose of Se-75 SM, also showed uptake throughout the reticuloendothelial system [8], It has been suggested that Se-75 SMis incorporated into active ly dividing cells of various neoplasms and that SM is utilised to some extent by tumor cells in intracellular metabolism [8J.…”
