Sclerotherapy for Aneurysmal Bone Cyst: A Single-Center Experience

Abstract: IntroductionSclerotherapy offers an alternative to surgery to treat an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). The present study's main objective was to assess the radiological efficacy of sclerotherapy in the healing of the cyst cavity secondary to biopsy-proven ABC on X-rays and assess clinical efficacy on pain, recurrence, and complications. Materials and methodsBetween 2016 and 2018, 26 patients (12 females, 14 males) with biopsy-proven ABC treated by sclerotherapy were included. All patients received an injection of … Show more

“…Sclerotherapy can cause damage the endothelium and consequently induce thrombosis of pathological small vessels leading to lesion healing, which makes it a treatment option for ABCs 5 25–27. Sclerotherapy provides a minimally invasive treatment so it is particularly useful for deep lesions, which are challenging for surgical access 26…”

“…Therefore, sclerotherapy has provided an effective and minimally invasive treatment for ABC and is particularly useful for deep injuries, challenging access to surgery, and potentially injurious vital structures. The use of 3% percutaneous polidocanol under fluoroscopic control appeared to improve the risk/benefit ratio [26].…”

“…A comprehensive comprehension of these systems is essential for formulating precise therapies and therapeutic methods to alleviate the neurological repercussions of viral illnesses. Future research endeavors should persist in elucidating the complexities of these pathophysiological mechanisms, yielding vital understandings of the prevention and treatment of infectious disorders that impact the nervous system [ 53 ].…”
