Scintillation in (C6H5CH2NH3)2SnBr4: green-emitting lead-free perovskite halide materials

Abstract: A new tin perovskite material with green emission is investigated as a new scintillator for imaging readout. Temperature dependent measurements were studied to understand the mechanism and to improve the future lead-free scintillator.

“…PL quantum yields (PLQY) were measured with the Labsphere integrating sphere explained in our previous works. 14,18 To check the validity of our PLQY measurements, we used Nanolumi CsPbBr 3 quantum dots as references as they had already been measured previously by the company. 14,18 All optical measurements were performed after a pre-heating step so that there was no afterglow or traps in the samples.…”

“…Moreover, replacing the lead cation with other divalent cations may increase the Stokes shift of the materials. 7 An approach to replace lead with other metal cations has been attempted such as with manganese (Mn), 12 copper (Cu), 13 tin (Sn), 14 and antimony (Sb). 15 In this work, we aim to explore the effect of Pb substitution by Cu or Sn on the optical and scintillation properties of solution-processed 2D BA 2 PbBr 4 perovskite.…”

“…Because of this structure, the bandgap is large and tunable. Moreover, increasing the chain length of the organic monocation allows the prevention of oxidation of Sn 2+ to Sn 4+ [114].…”

“…It is worth noting that the PIB in methods 1 and 2 plays the role of an edge seal, but it blankets the entire area under the glass in method 3. Lead-free PVs are also being investigated as potential improvements to PVs [157,164], as these same materials were investigated as scintillators [189,114]. Several improvements regarding their material quality, degradation have been considered, as have techniques to fabricate them.…”
