Scientific Analysis of Metal in Chinese and Korean Traditional Gold Thread

Abstract: The metal component of Chinese and Korean traditional gold thread was analyzed nondestructively using P-XRF and classified morphologically. In the nondestructive analysis of 22 Chinese and Korean artifacts, there were 10 gold threads made up of Au in China and 7 in Korea; in addition, there were 4 silver threads made up of Ag in Korea and 1 copper thread made up of Cu in China. In the morphological classification, 7 gilt paper strips were confirmed in China and Korea and 4 wrapped threads were identified in Ch… Show more

“…Another investigation describes five categories of metal thread: "(1) metal applied with adhesive to already woven fabrics, (2) metal wire or flattened strip, (3) metal wire or strips wound around fiber core, (4) metallic surface applied with adhesive to organic wrapping wound around fiber core, and (5) metallic surface applied with adhesive to cellulosic or proteinaceous strips" (Indictor et al, 1989). Analytical studies of the materials of metal microscope, atomic emission spectrographic analysis, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy(XRF), and scanning electron microscopic energy dispersive X-ray analysis(SEM-EDS) (Indictor et al, 1988;Nord and Tronner, 2000;Muros et al, 2007;Jeong et al, 2013;Yu et al, 2014).…”

“…1. 서 론 금사(金絲)는 금속물질로 만든 실을 뜻하지만, 현재까 지 확인된 금사 유물은 대부분 금을 사용하여 만들어진 것이기 때문에 금(金)과 은(銀) 또는 기타 금속을 사용해 서 만든 금속사 모두 금사라고 부르고 있다 (No, 2006) (Sim and Lee, 2014;Park, 2015)와 X선 형광 분석(XRF, X-Ray Fluorescence) 장비를 이용하여 금사의 금속 성분을 분석 하였으며 (Chung et al, 2011;Jeong et al, 2013;An et al, 2021), 주사전자현미경(SEM-EDS, Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer)을 활용 한 접착제의 혼합물을 밝히는 연구 (Kim et al, 2016)…”
