Curriculum material is generally considered the subject matter of information, talents, dispositions, understandings, and principles that make up research programs in the field. At a more complex level, the curricula need to contain historical and socio-political strengths, traditions, cultural views, and goals with wide differences in sovereignty, adaptation, and local understanding that encompass a diversity of cultures, laws, metaphysics, and political discourse This study aims to develop a curriculum with local content as a new approach in early childhood science learning. The Local Content Curriculum (LCC) is compiled and developed to preserve the uniqueness of local culture, natural environment, and community crafts for early childhood teachers so that they can introduce local content to early childhood. Research and model development combines the design of the Dick-Carey and Dabbagh models with qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that local content curriculum products can be supplemented into early childhood curricula in institutions according to local conditions. Curricula with local content can be used as a reinforcement for the introduction of science in early childhood. The research implication demands the concern of all stakeholders to see that the introduction of local content is very important to be given from an early age, so that children know, get used to, like, maintain, and love local wealth from an early age. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meninjau strategi guru dan keterlibatan orang tua dalam upaya pemahaman konsep sains anak TK Islam Al-Azhar 41 Palembang selama pandemi melalui pembelajaran daring. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan jenis pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dengan dua orang guru dan penyebaran angket kepada 31 orang tua. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi guru dalam mempersiapkan pembelajaran sains seperti; mengadakan sosialisasi guru dengan melibatkan orang tua dan melakukan briefing antar sesama guru dengan mempelajari video tutorial sains ternyata dapat menambah rasa percaya diri guru dalam mengajarkan sains serta menjadi lebih kreatif memilih konten sains yang tepat. Disamping itu, ditemukan lebih dari 50% orang tua terlibat dalam pembelajaran sains anak, mulai dari persiapan, proses, dan evaluasi. Kerja sama antara guru dan orang tua dalam pemahaman konsep sains anak mampu membantu anak berpikir lebih kritis, memecahkan masalah, dan mengetahui sebab-akibat dari sesuatu yang diamati di lingkungannya
Attitude toward science has been recognized as highly influential in students' engagement with science and future career choices. Science is important in our everyday lives as well, in a society demanding more scientific vocations and higher levels of scientific literacy. There is little research on how attitudes develop and evolve at early ages, which may be due to a lack of appropriate measurement tools. The objective of this study is to design and validate a tool to measure attitude toward informal science in 5 to 6‐year‐old children, who are not yet familiarized with “formal science.” Rather, these children are constantly interacting and learning about their surrounding world. These early experiences are important for future science engagement. The Leisure Time in Science (LeTiS) scale consists of eight pictures representing science learning activities in informal environments. Children's intentions of performing the activities shown in the LeTiS pictures are measured by comparing them with other leisure nonscientific activities. We also analyze parents' views on their children's leisure interests for comparison. The relationship among attitudes, intentions, and interests is also analyzed as part of this study involving 387 children and 188 parents. LeTiS is a pictographic scale, which is easy to interpret, with reliable psychometric properties, Oω = .88, and a unidimensional factorial structure. The results show that participants, aged 5–6, have a very positive attitude, with no gender‐based differences. Nevertheless, their intentions to perform the activities are less promising, as nonscientific activities are consistently the first choice. Although parents' views report considerable science interest in their children, there is a low correlation with attitudes and intentions. The findings may offer clues on the relationship between children's attitudes toward science and their actual behavior. The study may also contribute to planning science curriculum in the early educational years.
