Objective. To explore the application value of health education combined with aerobic exercise in patients with mastitis found in physical examination. Methods. The clinical data of 100 patients with mastitis who underwent physical examination in the physical examination center of our hospital from October 2020 to October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the order of physical examination, they were equally split into experimental group and control group. The control group received the routine clinical intervention, while the experimental group received health education combined with aerobic exercise to evaluate the clinical effects of different intervention modes on patients with mastitis. Results. Compared with the control group, the experimental group after intervention achieved notably higher scores of CD-RISC, self-management ability, and mastitis-related knowledge ( P < 0.001 ), lower scores of breast pain, skin color, and local mass diameter ( P < 0.001 ), and a higher SF-36 score ( P < 0.001 ). Conclusion. The clinical intervention combining health education with aerobic exercise in patients with mastitis found in the physical examination is an effective method to improve their mood state and self-management ability, and further research will help provide a good solution for such patients.

Let’s Ask the Teachers: A Qualitative Analysis of Health Education in Schools and Its Effectiveness

There is a need for action in health promotion for children and adolescents. Schools are assumed to be an appropriate place to enable students to behave healthily. Numerous interventions have been piloted in schools, but sustained implementation appears challenging. An alternative approach might be to ask teachers how they conduct health education and what they see as effective. Accordingly, we conducted an explorative study using semi-structured interviews with eleven teachers from secondary schools in Germany in 2019. The interviews focused on different aspects of health education: goals, methods and strategies, effectiveness, possible barriers, and ways to reduce them. We inductively identified six dimensions of effectiveness that teachers believe are relevant for effective health teaching in schools. Regarding methods and strategies, many were mentioned, but only a part was explicitly named as effective. Most of these strategies focus on improving students’ knowledge and skills, followed by strengthening health-promoting attitudes, but rarely promote long-term behavior change. Moreover, it became apparent that some aspects, such as goalsetting and developing action plans, received little attention in lessons, even though they are considered important for successful behavior change.

Background: National school curriculum statements detail what it is important to learn and are highly context- and discipline-specific. The health and physical education (H&PE) learning areas have multiple learning purposes, and facilitating this in curriculum design is a significant and challenging task. Objective: There is little reporting on ‘behind-the-scenes’ practices of H&PE curriculum writing, despite this being a key mechanism by which the shaping of curricula occurs. This article offers a descriptive case study of curriculum development for the Tokelau National Curriculum H&PE learning area for Years 0–13. Prior to 2021, this learning area did not formally exist in the Tokelau National Curriculum Framework. Design, Setting and Methods: The case reports on the processes and decisions of a multi-national transdisciplinary writing team from Tokelau, New Zealand and New Caledonia. We explore the questions: ‘Why the need for an H&PE curriculum, and who is it for?’ Document collection and team-based interviews formed the basis for deductive descriptive analysis of the writing processes. Results: Three key themes were developed. Related to ‘why’, findings illustrate the importance of formalising H&PE learning, representing knowledge, skills and capabilities useful for present and future generations of young people in Tokelau. Considering ‘for whom’, findings emphasise the involvement of the community in curriculum decisions, and the inclusion of distinctive features aligned with community values, needs and aspirations. Conclusion: The case study illustrates the requisite coming together of different groups and expertise in the creation of a curriculum, a synthesis of pre-existing and new knowledge and experiences. The focus on health promotion and health and physical literacies exemplifies the everyday use of school curriculum goals to support community health.
