Schiff Bases as Potential Fungicides and Nitrification Inhibitors

Abstract: A number of substituted Schiff bases were synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR and mass spectrometry. These compounds were screened for antifungal activity in vitro against pathogenic fungi, namely, Sclerotium rolfsii and Rhizoctonia bataticola, and for their effect on nitrification inhibition under laboratory conditions. Maximum antifungal activity was exhibited by (2,4-dichlorobenzylidene)-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-amine and (3-nitrobenzylidene)-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-amine against both fungi (ED(50) wit… Show more

“…[4] Azo-dyes have biological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, anti-HIV and antitumor, so they have immense importance in medicinal chemistry. [5,6] On the other hand, they are widely used as structural controllers of biomaterials, optical recording devices, photovoltaic devices, molecular switches, photoelectronics and in printing systems. [7] Furthermore, they have important roles in food and analytical chemistry.…”

“…It is beneficial to instigate this development through fragments with potential drug profiles . In this context, Schiff base derivatives have been extensively investigated due to their excellent biological properties credited to the presence of azomethine functionality . Triazolyl Schiff base derivatives are hybrids with a heterocyclic core and an azomethine linkage providing an excellent pharmacological role .…”
