A novel, simple approach to the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff base ligand resulted from the condensation of bisaldehyde and ethylenediamine was prepared (7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 18-hexahydrodibenzo (a, g) (14) annulene) (L) and its complexes were synthesized and characterized using different physicochemical studies as elemental analysis, FT-IR, ¹H NMR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their 1:1 complexe structures which are investigated by elemental analysis, FT-IR, ¹H NMR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic studies suggested the octahedral structure for the all complexes. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their structure in which (N₂O₂) group act as a tetradentate ligand and two chlorides as monodentate ligands. Also electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate octahedral structure of these complexes. The synthesized Schiff base and its metal complexes also were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. Here we report the effect of a neutral chelating ligand on the complexation with iron to determine it in different types of natural water using recovery test. The activity data show that the metal complexes to be more potent/ antibacterial than the parent Schiff base ligand against one or more bacterial species

A new heterocyclic azo dye ligand (L) was synthesized by the combination of 4-amino antipyrine with 4-aminophenol. The new Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) complexes were synthesized in excellent yields. The metal chelate structures were elucidated using elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, mass, magnetic moment, diffused reflectance spectral and thermal analysis (TG-DTG), and molar conductivity measurement. According to the FT-IR study, the azo dye ligand exhibited neutral tri-dentate behavior, binding to the metal ions with the azo N, carbonyl O, and protonated phenolic OH. The 1H-NMR spectral study of the Zn(II) complex supported the coordination of the zo dye ligand without proton displacement of the phenolic OH. Diffused reflectance and magnetic moment studies revealed the octahedral geometry of the complexes, as well as their good electrolytic nature, excepting the Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes, which were nonelectrolytes, as deduced from the molar conductivity study. The theoretical calculations of optimized HOMO–LUMO energies, geometrical parameters, electronic spectra, natural atomic charges, 3D-plots of MEP, and vibrational wavenumbers were computed and elucidated using LANL2DZ and 6-311G (d, p) basis sets of density functional theory (DFT) with the approach of B3LYP DFT and TD-DFT methods. The ligand and complexes have been assayed for their antimicrobial activity and compared with the standard drugs. Most of the complexes have manifested excellent antimicrobial activity against various microbial strains. A molecular docking investigation was also performed, to acquire more information about the binding mode and energy of the ligand and its metal complexes to the Escherichia coli receptor using molecular docking. Altogether, the newly created ligand and complexes showed positive antibacterial effects and are worth future study.

The Cr (III), Mn (II), Fe (III), Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II) and Cd (II) complexes were prepared by reaction of its metal chlorides with new azo‐dye ligand (H2L). The ligand derived from 4,4′‐oxydianiline and 2‐amino‐4‐chlorophenol was synthesized in a 1:2 molar ratio. The structure of the ligand and its metal complexes was investigated using different tools such as elemental analysis (C, H, N and M), molar conductivity, IR, UV–vis, 1H‐NMR, mass spectrometry and thermogravimetric and differential thermogravimetric studies. The data showed that the ligand acted as a N,N,O,O‐binegative tetradentate ligand. All metal complexes had a octahedral structure as depicted by spectral and elemental analyses. The conductivity data showed the electrolytic nature of the Cr (III) and Fe (III) complexes while the other complexes were nonelectrolytes. Thermal analysis studies showed the decomposition of the complexes in four to five steps with the weight loss of hydrated water in the first decomposition step followed by the coordinated water and ligand molecules. Biological activity was tested for the prepared compounds against four bacterial species (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and against two fungal species (Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans). Also, all complexes were screened for anticancer activities against a breast cancer (MCF‐7) cell line. The [Co(L)(H2O)2] complex showed the lowest IC50 value. Molecular docking is a key tool in computer drug design. Therefore, investigation of protein receptors and ligand interaction plays a vital role in the design of structurally based drugs. As a result, docking studies were investigated for H2L ligand, [Mn(L)(H2O)2] and [Ni(L)(H2O)2] complexes with 5KBC, 3V7B and 4G9M receptors.
