Scanning electron microscopy study of the choroid plexus in the monkey (Cebus apella apella)

Abstract: -The cells of the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricles of the monkey Cebus apella apella were examined through scanning electron microscopy at contributing to the description of such structures in primates. The animals were anesthetized previously with 3% hypnol intraperitoneally and after perfusion with 2.5% glutaraldehyde, samples of the choroid plexus were collected after exhibition of the central portion and inferior horn of the lateral ventricles. The ventricular surface of those cells presents globos… Show more

“…In general, SEM and TEM analyses of the CPs from buffalo brain showed morphological and structural features similar to those reported in other mammalian species (Adami et al, 2005;De Spiegelaere et al, 2008;Gomez and Potts, 1981;Miodonski et al, 1979;Peters and Swan, 1979;Rajtovà , 2002;Scala et al, 1994;Tamega et al, 2000;Webster, 1976). The blood microvasculature is the major component of the CPs responsible for the formation of the CSF.…”

“…At both SEM and TEM analyses, CPs from buffalo brain show many morphological features similar to those reported for other species of mammals (Peters and Swan, 1979; Miodonski et al, 1979; Gomez and Potts, 1981; Scala et al, 1994; Tamega et al, 2000; Rajtovà, 2002; Adami et al, 2005; Mathew, 2007). CPs appear well developed with laminar or folded structural organization.…”

“…The folds observed on the surface of the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricles of the horse have also been identified in cats (Clementi and Marini, 1972), dogs (Gomez and Potts, 1981), sheep and goat fetuses (Rajtová, 1997), sheep (Rajtová, 2002), and monkeys (Tamega et al, 2000).…”

“…Microvilli and cilia have been identified in the choroid plexuses of the cerebral ventricles of rats (Chamberlain, 1973), cats (Clementi and Marini, 1972), mice (Dohrmann and Herdson, 1970), sheep and goat fetuses (Rajtová, 1997), goats and sheep (Rajtová, 2000, 2002) and monkeys (Tamega et al, 2000). When present in the choroid plexus, the number of cilia is small, while most of the ependyma that lines the cavities of the cerebral ventricles of mammals is characterized by a large number of cilia (Peters and Swan, 1979; Seymour and Berry, 1979).…”
