Scalable hologram video coding for adaptive transmitting service

Abstract: This paper discusses processing techniques for an adaptive digital holographic video service in various reconstruction environments, and proposes two new scalable coding schemes. The proposed schemes are constructed according to the hologram generation or acquisition schemes: hologram-based resolution-scalable coding (HRS) and light source-based signal-to-noise ratio scalable coding (LSS). HRS is applied for holograms that are already acquired or generated, while LSS is applied to the light sources before gene… Show more

“…In the case of calculating CGHs on the RX, the object point information, rather than a hologram itself, is transmitted. The service issue requires additional explanation and discussion, which is beyond the scope of this paper [12,13].…”

“…There are various types of systems for providing video service using digital holographic technology based on the CGH [13]. Among such systems, a method for the generation and display of natural scene-based holograms is presented in Fig.…”

“…Scalable coding has mainly be considered for images and videos [26][27][28], but some preliminary work for scalable hologram compression exist. For example, in [29,30] the hologram is represented as a light-field by a spatial cutting into small apertures. The obtained sub-holograms are then encoded using a scalable video codec and transmitted with respect to the viewer's location.…”
