Scalable consistency-based hardware trojan detection and diagnosis

Abstract: Abstract-Hardware Trojans (HTs) have become a major concern in modern IC industry, especially with the fast growth in IC outsourcing. HT detection and diagnosis are challenging due to the huge number of gates in modern IC designs and the high cost of testing. We propose a scalable and efficient HT detection and diagnosis scheme based on segmentation and consistency analysis of the gate-level properties. Furthermore, we develop a HT masking approach that prevents the HTs from functioning using selective device … Show more

“…Among them, side-channel based HT detection based on power and delay monitoring has become the most focused area [2,3,10,11,12,21]. However, until now, there are no standard and publicly accepted test benchmarks for evaluating the various side-channel-based HT detection solutions, making it difficult for IC design companies or researchers to select the most effective HT detection solutions or to compare them.…”

“…A number of efficient methods for Trojan detection based on structural side-channel timing tests [12,8], dynamic or leakage power tests [16,24], or a combination of them [11,20,23] were recently proposed. Comprehensive surveys can be found in [18].…”

“…show that a gate-level delay characterization approach [7] been created for Trojan detection, and inserting the test point to separate the parallel path and form it to a satisfiability (SAT) problem. Another one [8] developed a complete solution of HT detection, diagnosis, and masking. They employed segmentation and consistency based gate characterization to determine the existence of HTs and their locations.…”
