SBTMS: Scalable Blockchain Trust Management System for VANET

Abstract: With many advances in sensor technology and the Internet of Things, Vehicle Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is becoming a new generation. VANET’s current technical challenges are deploying decentralized architecture and protecting privacy. Because Blockchain features are decentralized, distributed, mass storage, and non-manipulation features, this paper designs a new decentralized architecture using Blockchain technology called Blockchain-based VANET. Blockchain-based VANET can effectively resolve centralized problems … Show more

“…For the communication between roadside units and vehicles, Ghovanlooy Ghajar et al [ 17 ] proposed a blockchain-based scalable trust management system for VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork). This system provides the vehicle with its surrounding driving environment and evaluates the reliability of the information about the surrounding environment acquired by the vehicle through its own sensors.…”

“…As an example, in social sciences, trust is the degree of subjective belief about the behavior of a particular entity. S. Marchs [26] defined trust is defined as the subjective probability of an agent performing a given action, for VANETs, the definition of trust is similar to that of sociology, where trust is the degree of belief that an entity will perform tasks that it should, and has five basic properties: asymmetry, dynamicity, subjectivity, non-transitivity, and context dependence [27] [18]. The initial phase of "Data Gathering" is one of the most important for the trust model and entity's physical data (status, communication characteristics, hardware/software resources, among others) and direct confidence ones related to interactions between system entities commonly evaluate by probabilistic methods are collected.…”

“…To guarantee the trustworthiness of received messages, Ghajar et al [ 33 ] provide a Bayesian formula for trust management and some blockchain-based data. Vehicles verify the accuracy of the messages they have received and calculate the trust values of the sender vehicles.…”
