Saturation in Roentgen Therapy: Its Estimation and Maintenance

Abstract: Since roentgen rays were first applied to therapeutic uses two decades ago, studies and experimentation have resulted in the development of two widely separated schools concerning their method of application. Briefly, the older method is that by which maximum effects are gradually obtained by the administration of small doses, repeated at short intervals, and continued over a long period of time. This method has long been known as that of "fractional dosage," and the results obtained by it, in the hands of Pus… Show more

“…In figure 7 the curves of the growth following the three doses have been rearranged to show more graphically the effect of the two temperatures on each. The curves in figures 4, 5, 6, and 8 show that with all the doses used, the latent period was longer at the lower temperature. As the dose increases, the difference between the temperature effects is increased.…”

“…An interesting variation in fractionation technique, the saturation method, was used in the 1920's and 1930's. It was based on what was perhaps the first mathematical isoeffect model (KINGERY 1920;HOFFMAN & REINHARD 1934). Radiation injury was considered to arise from an accumulation of toxic products, with recovery the result of their removal.…”

“…Après que Kingery [20] ait émis, dès 1920, l'hypothèse d'un recouvrement en radiothérapie, Maccomb Cette méthode d'irradiation fractionnée est utilisée, en 1946, pour apprécier les effets de l'irradiation totale par H agen et Simmons [21] par le critère de la DL 50/30 jours.…”
