Satisfaction With the Organ Donation Process of Brain Dead Donors' Families In Korea

Abstract: Because donors' own willingness is the most common reason that families choose donation, it is necessary to remind the public of the importance of organ donation through education and public relations using mass communication approaches. Additionally, because the families felt grief and guilt as well as missing their loved ones and pride regarding their dead loved ones after organ donation, continuous and systematic supports are needed to promote their psychological stability.

“…Researchers found that most families are satisfied with their decisions ( Bartucci, 1987 ; Batten and Prottas, 1987 ; Greser et al, 2013 ; Kim et al, 2014 ; Marck et al, 2016 ; Redelmeier et al, 2014 ; Rodrigue et al, 2008a ; Tymstra et al, 1992 ; Walker and Sque, 2016 ; Walker et al, 2013 ), but have also noted that family well-being has only been superficially studied and little is known about long-term adjustment of families of potential organ donors ( Ashkenazi and Cohen, 2015 ; Bellali and Papadatou, 2006 ; Caplan, 1995 ; Riley and Coolican, 1999 ; Smudla et al, 2012 ).…”
