Sampling and analytical procedures for evaluation of airborne chlordane levels in family quarters

Abstract

A sampling and analysis protocol was developed for determining trace levels of chlordane in the interior of family housing units. Chlordane, when applied as a termiticide through sub‐slab injection, found its way into family quarters through heating ducts. In this study, methods were developed to sample and analyze for trace levels of this airborne chlordane. Commercially available Chromosorb 102 sampling tubes were evaluated and found to be extremely useful. Trace levels of chlordane collected on these commercial sampling tubes can be stored before analysis for up to 131 d after sampling, with no measurable loss of chlordane. Chlordane collection efficiency and recovery from Chromosorb 102 sampling tubes was found to be excellent.
