“…Progesterone is a key hormonal regulator of the female reproductive system and plays a major role in preparing the uterus for implantation and in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy (32,33). PTB in women is associated with changes in circulating hormones such as progesterone deficits (34)(35)(36)(37)(38) or with inadequate responses to progesterone (32,39). To further demonstrate the effectiveness of bitter tastants in preventing PTB, we established another mouse model of preterm labor with the progesterone receptor antagonist RU-486.…”

“…Antenatal administration of progesterone prevents sPTB in women at increased risk . Low concentration of salivary progesterone was found to be associated with recurrent sPTB in a retrospective cohort of women at increased risk of sPTB, an observation that has been supported by more recent prospectively collected data . Historically HG is more common in multiple pregnancy where progesterone concentrations are higher.…”

“…1 Progesterone (P) is essential for the maintenance of pregnancy. 6 P level shows a limited variation during the first trimester of pregnancy and a single serum measurement of 25 ng/mL or more carries 97% likelihood for healthy pregnancy. 7 There is a rapid decline in P levels in most mammals before the onset of labor.…”
