Salivary cytokine profile in patients with oral lichen planus

Abstract: Background/purpose Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory lesion of oral mucosal, and its pathogenesis involves immune cell-mediated aberrances. However, the findings conflict with each other. This research aimed to comprehensively detect the salivary cytokine profile of patients with OLP. Materials and methods The cohort included 60 OLP patients (30 reticular and 30 erosive), and 30 healthy controls, matched in age and sex. Human Cytokine/Chemokine Magnetic… Show more

“…In accordance with the present study Zhu et al, agreed that salivary levels of IL-6 were positively associated with OLP severity and should be used as a potential biomarkers in OLP diagnosis and prognosis of OLP (39) . Topical steroids are considered as the first-line treatment for symptomatic OLP (40) and in our study following the usage of topical triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% in orabase, the IL-6 values in the salivary samples were dropped significantly reaching a mean of 5.5 ± 11.4 pg/ml.…”

“…In addition, this should be possible not only for specialists, but also for general dentists, to supervise the progress of OLP, which can even facilitate telemedicine. expression levels and cytokine profiles, in addition to varying clinical prognoses [5,24,25] , and this was confirmed by the present study. The serum levels of PA and LAC in both OLP groups were significantly elevated, when compared with those for the controls, while the LDH levels only increased in EOLP serum, but without significant differences.…”

“…At present, studies have shown that there are in ammatory factors that may interact with OLP, hypertension, diabetes and other diseases. For example, the detection amount of in ammatory factors such as IL-4, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α in erosive OLP is higher than that in reticular OLP, and these in ammatory factors can lead to endothelial dysfunction, leading to a series of diseases such as hypertension and diabetes [31][32][33][34][35][36] . This phenomenon is highly consistent with the relationship between the severity of psoriasis and metabolic syndrome.…”
