Salinimonas lutimaris sp. nov., a polysaccharide-degrading bacterium isolated from a tidal flat

Abstract: A Gram-negative, non-motile, non-endospore-forming bacterial strain, designated DPSR-4(T), was isolated from a tidal flat sediment on the southern coast of Korea. Strain DPSR-4(T) grew optimally at 25-30°C, at pH 7.0-7.5 and in the presence of 2% (w/v) NaCl. A Neighbour-Joining phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain DPSR-4(T) clustered with Salinimonas chungwhensis BH030046(T) by a high bootstrap resampling value of 99.7%. Strain DPSR-4(T) exhibited 96.2… Show more

“…Ubiquinone Q-8 was only detected as the predominant isoprenoid quinone in the species of the genera Aestuariibacter (Jean et al 2013;Yi et al 2004) and Alteromonas (Ivanova et al 2000(Ivanova et al , 2005Martínez-Checa et al 2005;Yoon et al 2003a), Glaciecola (Jean et al 2013) and Salinimonas (Jeon et al 2005;Yoon et al 2012). The common polar lipids of the species in the genus Bowmanella were reported to be phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine.…”

“…The major fatty acids ([10 % of total fatty acids) of the strain JS7-9 T were determined as C 16:0 (21.7 %), Sum In Feature 3 (C 16:1 x7c/x6c) (16.9 %) and Sum In Feature 8 (C 18:1 x7c/x6c) (14.9 %) which are characteristic fatty acids for other closely-related genera such as Bowmanella (Jean et al 2006;Lai et al 2009b), Aestuariibacter (Yi et al 2004;Tanaka et al 2010;Wang et al 2010), Aliiglaciecola (Chen et al 2009a, b;Tanaka et al 2010), Alteromonas (Raguenes et al 1996;Yan et al 2011) andSalinimonas (Jeon et al 2005;Yoon et al 2012; Table 1). The substantial proportion (more than 10 % of total fatty acids) of Sum In Feature 8 (C 18:1 x7c/x6c) determined in strain JS7-9 T can be used as a differential feature of the newly isolated bacterium and those of the genera Catenovulum (Yan et al 2011) and Glaciecola (Baik et al 2006;Chen et al 2009a;Park and Yoon 2013).…”

“…The artificial seawater contained (l -1 distilled water) 23.6 g NaCl, 0.64 g KCl, 4.53 g MgCl 2 Á6H 2 O, 5.94 g MgSO 4 Á7H 2 O and 1.3 g CaCl 2 Á2H 2 O (Bruns et al 2001). Degradation of various polysaccharides was tested as described previously (Yoon et al 2012). Acid production from carbohydrates was determined as described by Leifson (1963).…”
