Sagittula marina sp. nov., isolated from seawater and emended description of the genus Sagittula

Abstract: A novel bacterium, designated strain F028-2 T , was isolated from seawater at Damupo beach in Pohang, Korea, and investigated in a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. This novel strain was strictly aerobic, non-motile, Gram-stain-negative and rod-shaped, and occasionally formed aggregates. The temperature, pH and NaCl ranges for growth were 4-30 6C, pH 6.5-9.0 and 1-7 % (w/v), respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain F028-2 T formed a lineage within the f… Show more

“…Strain M10.9X T was able to synthesize phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid, an unidentified glycolipid, an unidentified phospholipid and an unidentified lipid. The polar lipid profile of strain M10.9X T is in accordance with the data previously reported by Lee et al [2] for S. marina F028-2 T , which was also able to synthesize phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, an unidentified phospholipid and six unidentified lipids.…”

“…The genus Sagittula was first described by González et al in 1997 and reclassified within the Rhodobacteraceae family by Lee et al in 2012 [1,2]. At the time of writing, the genus Sagittula is composed of only two species: Sagittula stellata and Sagittula marina, both isolated from marine environments and promising strains with bioremediation capacities [1][2][3].…”

“…Bootstrap values of ≥50% are indicated at their respective nodes. Reference type strains are indicated with superscript “†.” The backgrounds of the reference strains are colored according to the sugar (sucrose and/or glucose) utilization capacity of those bacteria based on the data from (1) Lee et al ( 2013 ); (2) Staley ( 1984 ); (3) Kuykendall et al ( 2015 ); (4) Dall'Agnol et al ( 2013 ); (5) Baldani et al ( 2015 ); (6) Hungria et al ( 1993 ); (7) Kuykendall ( 2015 ); (8) Sajnaga and Jach ( 2020 ); (9) Ahnia et al ( 2018 ); (10) Reis et al ( 2004 ); (11) Chen et al ( 2006 ); (12) Coenye et al ( 2001 ); (13) Wolterink et al ( 2005 ); (14) Weon et al ( 2008 ); (15) Qiu et al ( 2017 ); (16) Hardoim et al ( 2013 ); (17) Xu et al ( 2020 ); (18) Ueki et al ( 2006 ); (19) Olsen ( 2015 ); (20) Imhoff ( 2015b ); (21) Diaz-Barrera et al ( 2016 ); (22) Bae et al ( 2006 ); (23) Norris et al ( 2015 ); and (24) Patrick and McDowell ( 2015 ). The black-and-white shading in the columns on the right-hand of the NifH-OTU name indicates the mean relative abundance of the NifH-OTUs in each rice genotype ( n = 2 for Nipponbare; n = 3 for agpl1 , Leafstar, and CG14).…”

“…Members of the family Rhodobacteraceae are physiologically and metabolically heterogeneous, including both phototrophic and non-phototrophic bacteria. In recent years, many novel species isolated from various habitats have been shown to belong taxonomically to the family Rhodobacteraceae , such as species of the genera Youngimonas (Hameed et al , 2014), Cribrihabitans (Chen et al , 2014), Planktomarina (Giebel et al , 2013), Pelagimonas (Hahnke et al , 2013), Profundibacterium (Lai et al , 2013), Sagittula (Lee et al , 2013a), Epibacterium (Penesyan et al , 2013) and Falsirhodobacter (Subhash et al , 2013). In this communication, we report a novel non-phototrophic species of a new genus associated with the family Rhodobacteraceae , which was isolated from a cold-water lake.…”
