RUS skeletal maturity of children in Beijing

Abstract: The RUS maturity of the Beijing children was comparable with that of Tokyo children, except for the boys between 11 and 13 years. Variability of the RUS maturation among the Chinese children was greater than that found among the TW3, Tokyo and Beijing children.

“…Similar results were also found when comparing Chinese with British (Dangour et al, 2002). These comparisons suggest that the difference in stature between Chinese and European children may be attributed to LL and also indicate that the plateauing age for LL is earlier in Chinese, which is consistent with reports on bone maturation that show earlier ages of hand and wrist skeletal maturity of Chinese children compared to the TW3 standards based on European and North American children (Ashizawa et al, 2005;Zhang et al, 2008). Figure 6 indicates that SH/LL of Chinese children aged older than 2 years was significantly larger than that of Dutch (Fredriks et al, 2005), Austrian (Gleiss et al, 2013) and Mozambican (Padez et al, 2009) children.…”

“…The most striking aspect is that, at the end of puberty, the average BA − CA has reached approximately 1 year. In other words, Chinese children reach maturity around one year earlier than the children that made up the GP BA reference, in agreement with previous studies [12]. This dramatic deviation was the main motivation for setting up the BX-China05 BA scale.…”
