The approach called as "graph theory and matrix approach" has been well employed in numerous research studies with a view to perform the decision-making while the situation is becoming perplexed type or where there is a very strong relative importance of one parameter over another. In such cases, the said graph theory and matrix method provides very suitable and fruitful solutions to make the decision to its final effective extent. The further improvements and the outcome enhancement can also be revealed through the use of combined practice of graph theory results along with some artificial intelligence-inspired logics and practices such as fuzzy logic, artificial neural network, etc. The significance and applicability of said method in vast fields of science, engineering, and research are also proved. Nowadays, our manufacturing sectors are getting up to date through the applications of artificial intelligence and several software-based directions. This is all to enhance the overall machine system performance with a view to improve desired performance characteristics of the process under the study. Few sections of this chapter has also elaborated the utility of the artificial intelligence-inspired fuzzy logic-based decision system which has already been a part of previous researches.

Enhancement of surface roughness for brittle material during rotary ultrasonic machining

Surface roughness is the key aspect which could increase the application of float glass by enhancing the machined hole quality. Glass is extensively used in microfluidic devices, bio-medical parts and biosensors. The core objective of the research study is to optimize the best parametric combination to achieve the least amount of surface roughness. The three major parameters which are used for designed experimental study are spindle speed, ultrasonic amplitude and feed rate. The least value of surface roughness is noticed at spindle speed (5000 rpm), vibration amplitude (20 μ m) and feed rate (6 mm/min) which be adopted for increasing its functional application. Consequently, after optimizing the parameters, least value of surface roughness at hole internal region is revealed as 1.09 μm.

Productivity is an indicator of efficiency with which resources, both human and material, are transformed into useful services and goods. The vital purpose of the prevailing work was to analyze the factors involved in the improvement of productivity in all its types such as material, capital, labor, machine and total productivity at the plant. This was obtained by decreasing the manufacturing cost per component by reducing its cycle time and increasing the monthly production rate. The experimentation revealed that using proposed processes and improved tooling, monthly production rate has increased by 16.2% due to reduced cycle time, the number of defected components i.e. rejection rate has reduced up to 2%. A reduction of 6.78% in manufacturing cost per component was recorded. Tooling cost has reduced by more than 12%. Saving up to 50% in inspection cost has been recorded due to close dimensional tolerances and high surface finish achieved on components. An increase of 4.84% was recorded in total productivity.
