Rosuvastatin alleviates high-salt and cholesterol diet-induced cognitive impairment in rats via Nrf2–ARE pathway

Abstract: Objective: The objectives of our study were to investigate the possible effect of rosuvastatin in ameliorating high salt and cholesterol diet (HSCD)-induced cognitive impairment and to also investigate its possible action via the Nrf2-ARE pathway. Methods: In silico studies were performed to check the theoretical binding of rosuvastatin to the Nrf2 target. HSCD was used to induce cognitive impairment in rats and neurobehavioral studies were performed to evaluate the efficacy of rosuvastatin in enhancing cognit… Show more

“…By mitigating the formation of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, rosuvastatin might delay the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Data collected from molecular docking studies in our laboratory has confirmed that rosuvastatin has good binding with targets such as NF‐ĸB, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and amyloid beta (Aβ), which corroborates the role of rosuvastatin in amelioration of cognitive impairment …”

“…Then, the rats were treated daily for 5 weeks (weeks 7–11) with the drugs along with HFSD. The dose of VitD was 500 IU/kg/day; PO [ 37 ], while that for RSV was 15mg/kg/day; PO [ 38 ].…”

“…[33][34][35] Pellets of high cholesterol diet were prepared freshly by adding 1.56% cholesterol and 10% coconut oil in standard diet pellets and dried at room temperature. [36,37] The composition of HCD has been validated in the first part of the study that consisted of HCD in different concentrations of cholesterol. 1).…”
