An accurate and timely identification of causative microorganisms as well as determination of their antibiotic susceptibility patterns will help in the selection of proper antibiotics and prevention of their misuse in pneumonia patients. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution and antibiotic susceptibility pattern of bacteria isolated from endotracheal aspirates of ventilator-assisted pneumonia patients in Indonesia. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital, a provincial reference hospital in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, from January to December 2021. Ventilator-assisted pneumonia patients aged ≥17 years treated in the hospital were considered eligible. Antibiotic susceptibility was valuated using Kirby-Bauer disc-diffusion followed with VITEK 2 Compact. We included 57 patients of which 73.7% males and 26.3% aged 56–65 years (represent the majority group of the patients). Each patient reported at least one comorbidity and the average duration of receiving mechanical ventilation was 8.68 days, and more than half (59.7%) of the patients had a poor clinical outcome (died). A total 57 bacteria isolates (consisting nine species) were recovered; 68.5% Gram-negative and 31.5% Gram-positive bacteria. Among 57 patients, Acinetobacter baumannii was the most frequent isolated Gram-negative bacteria (19.3%), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (17.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.8%), and Achromobacter denitrificans (12.3%). A. baumannii exhibited <70% sensitivity to aminoglycoside and carbapenem antibiotics and 100% resistance to third-generation cephalosporins. The most abundant Gram-positive bacteria was Staphylococcus aureus (17.5%), followed by S. haemolyticus (10.5%) and S. epidermidis (3.5%). All S. aureus were sensitive to linezolid, tigecycline, vancomycin, and macrolide antibiotics (azithromycin, clarithromycin, clindamycin, and erythromycin), whereas 50% were sensitive to some beta-lactams. However, 50% of S. aureus were methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Given the magnitude of multi-drug resistance, an empiric antimicrobial therapy in particular to specific settings and implementation of antibiotic stewardship programs are crucial.

Infeksi bakteri, jamur maupun virus dapat terjadi pada seorang penderita diabetes melitus.Penderita dengan metabolisme yang buruk lebih rentan terhadap infeksi bakteri yang berulang. Kerusakan gigi dapat terjadi pada penderita diabetes melitus sebab adanya peningkatan kadar glukosa dalam cairan salivanya, terkhusus pada penderita yang tidak memperhatikan kebersihan gigi dan mulut sehingga memicu pola bakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat gambaran pertumbuhan Streptococcus spp. pada mulut penderita diabetes melitus di kota Makassar. Jenis penelitian deskriptif, dengan melakukan observasi langsung secara laboratorium.Teknik pengambilan sampel secara Consecutive Sampling, dan didapatkan 24 sampel penelitian yang diambil dari 3 Rumah Sakit di Kota Makassar.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada Mei -Juni tahun 2022 di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Teknologi Laboratorium Medis PoltekkesKemenkes Makassar. Hasil penelitian bahwa sesuai usia penderita DM dari 24 sampel terdapat usia 55-77 tahun 66,67% lebih banyak dari 38-54 tahun sebesar 33,33%. Jenis kelamin diperoleh 10 orang (41,67%) laki-laki dan 12 orang (50%) perempuan. Hasil pemeriksaan 15 sampel teridentifikasi Streptococcus spp., 2 sampel teridentifikasi Pseudomonas spp., dan 7 sampel teridentifikasi Enterobacter spp. Disimpulkan terdapat pertumbuhan Streptococcus spppada mulut penderita diabetes melitus.

The importance of patient safety when carrying out dental and oral care processes is essential. However, the high levels of contamination that have been reported in dental units are of particular concern, so it is necessary to identify and study the patterns of bacterial contaminants and the transduction mechanisms of bacterial responses to their environment. This study investigates the diversity of bacterial contamination in dental units, chemotaxtic signals, and pathways from chemoreceptors through in silico approched. In silico research was carried out using several online and offline software tools utilizing a genomic sequence database from bacteria-contaminated with dental units. Phylogenetic analysis of the tree based on the 16s rRNA gene using MEGA 6 software, protein signaling interactions were analyzed using MiST 3.0 (https://mistdb.com/), signal transduction and protein structure (https://pfam.xfam.org/), the role of chemotaxis using interPro Ebi (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/interpro/structure/), dan biological process using Ebi QuickGo (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/QuickGO/). The analysis showed that 58 species of bacterial contamination showed a similarity test > 95%. Chemosensory pathway analysis of P. aeruginosa with a genome length of 6.538 Mbp through 8 signaling mechanism pathways for a total of 48 MCP. Signaling pathways.MCP signaling analysis classes are 24H, 36H, 40H, and 44H, while the identification of MCP classes is grouped based on chemosensory classes, namely CheW, CheA, CheR, CheB, Chev, CheD, and CheZ. The conclusion of this study, the complexity of the chemoreceptor interaction pathway in adapting quickly to the environment.
