Abstract

The (de)aroma of success: A cationic platinum(II) complex generated in situ catalyzes dearomatization of fused arenes by forming two intramolecular CC bonds (see scheme). Mechanistic studies reveal that this reaction could proceed through alkyne activation by the cationic platinum(II) complex followed by a Friedel–Crafts‐type reaction.
