The isosteric enthalpy of adsorption (∆adsh ) of CO2 in three different micro and mesoporous materials was evaluated in this work. These materials were a microporous material with functional groups of nitrogen and oxygen (CMFs, carbon microfibers), a mesoporous material with silanol groups (SBA-15, Santa Barbara Amorphous), and a mesoporous material with amine groups (SBA-15_APTES, SBA-15 amine-functionalized with (3-Aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane). The temperature interval explored was between 263 K and 303 K, with a separation of 5 K between each one, so a total of nine CO2 isotherms were obtained. Using the nine isotherms and the Clausius–Clapeyron equation, the reference value for ∆adsh was found. The reference value was compared with those ∆adsh obtained, considering some arrangement of three or five CO2 isotherms. Finally, it was found that at 298 K and 1 bar, the total amount of CO2 adsorbed is 2.32, 0.53, and 1.37 mmol g−1 for CMF, SBA-15, and SBA-15_APTES, respectively. However, at a coverage of 0.38 mmol g−1, ∆adsh is worth 38, 30, and 29 KJ mol−1 for SBA-15_APTES, CMFs, and SBA-15, respectively. So, physisorption predominates in the case of CMF and SBA-15 materials, and the ∆adsh values significantly coincide regardless of whether the isotherms arrangement used was three or five. Meanwhile, in SBA-15_APTES, chemisorption predominates as a consequence of the arrangements used to obtain . This happens in such a way that the use of low temperatures (263–283 K) tends to produce higher ∆adsh values, while the use of high temperatures (283–303 K) decreases the ∆adsh values.

Ordered mesoporous materials and their modification with multiple functional groups are of wide scientific interest for many applications involving interaction with biological systems and biomolecules (e.g., catalysis, separation, sensor design, nano-science or drug delivery). In particular, the immobilization of enzymes onto solid supports is highly attractive for industry and synthetic chemistry, as it allows the development of stable and cheap biocatalysts. In this context, we developed novel silylated amino acid derivatives (Si-AA-NH2) that have been immobilized onto SBA-15 materials in biocompatible conditions avoiding the use of toxic catalyst, solvents or reagents. The resulting amino acid-functionalized materials (SBA-15@AA) were characterized by XRD, TGA, EA, Zeta potential, nitrogen sorption and FT-IR. Differences of the physical properties (e.g., charges) were observed while the structural ones remained unchanged. The adsorption of the enzyme lysozyme (Lyz) onto the resulting functionalized SBA-15@AA materials was evaluated at different pHs. The presence of different functional groups compared with bare SBA-15 showed better adsorption results, for example, 79.6 nmol of Lyz adsorbed per m2 of SBA-15@Tyr compared with the 44.9 nmol/m2 of the bare SBA-15.

In this study, a novel mesoporous nanocomposite was fabricated in several steps. In this regard, SBA-15 was prepared by the hydrothermal method, next it was magnetized by in-situ preparation of Fe3O4 MNPs. After that, the as-prepared SBA-15/Fe3O4 functionalized with 3-minopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) via post-synthesis approach. Then, the guanidinylated SBA-15/Fe3O4 was obtained by nucleophilic addition of APTES@SBA-15/Fe3O4 to cyanimide. The prepared nanocomposite exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the synthesis of dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole derivatives which can be related to its physicochemical features such as strong basic sites (presented in guanidine group), Lewis acid site (presented in Fe3O4), high porous structure, and high surface area. The characterization of the prepared mesoporous nanocomposite was well accomplished by different techniques such as FT-IR, EDX, FESEM, TEM, VSM, TGA, XRD and BET. Furthermore, the magnetic catalyst was reused at least six consequent runs without considerable reduction in its catalytic activity.
