Role of phase composition for electronic states in CH3NH3PbI3 prepared from CH3NH3I/PbCl2 solution

Abstract: Modulated surface photovoltage (SPV) spectra have been correlated with the phase composition in layers of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) prepared from MAI and PbCl2 and annealed at 100 °C. Depending on the annealing time, different compositions of MAPbI3, MAPbCl3, MACl, PbI2, and an un-identified phase were found. It has been demonstrated that evaporation of MAI and HI is crucial for the development of electronic states in MAPbI3 and that only the appearance and evolution of the phase PbI2 has an influence on electronic … Show more

“…These peaks could be correlated to the (100) and (200) diffraction peaks of CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 which is in agreement with previous reports [25]. It was interesting that the coating of PMMA on top of perovskite layer could significantly reduce the amount of CH 3 NH 3 PbCl 3 in the final perovskite films [29]. The peak at 40.47 • appeared in all the samples even without perovskite.…”

“…Perovskite coated with 0 mg/mL of PMMA, a change of sign after the first day of storage in air was observed and an impurity phase of PbI 2 at around 2.3 eV [21] appeared as the storage time in air increased. This implied that perovskite degraded to PbI 2 with CH 3 NH 3 I evaporating from the surface due to interaction with air and moisture [29]. This was also confirmed by the GIXRD spectrum that PbI 2 peak appeared at 12.67 • [25] after exposure to air for more than one day.…”

“…The in‐phase or x‐signal (black filled circles) and phase‐shifted by 90° or y‐signal (black unfilled circles) are related to fast or slow response to the light source. A negative or positive sign of the in‐phase signal means that photo‐generated electrons are separated preferentially towards the external (direction towards to mica) or internal (direction towards to FTO) interface . All perovskite samples showed the negative sign in x‐signals indicating the p‐type characteristics in depletion region .…”

“…Charge separation and transport length (L) of photo-generated charge carriers were studied by SPV measurements. [34][35][36][37] In the measurement of L, the SPV signal is kept constant whereas the light intensity is plotted depending on the absorption length (Goodman plot). The intersection point of the corresponding linear t gives the negative value of L. 36,37 PL was measured using lasers of two wavelengths, 362 nm and 504 nm.…”
