Role of Ki67 protein in colorectal cancer

Abstract: Colorectal cancer has become one of the most frequent malignancy and the leading cause of death from cancer globally. Global Burden Cancer in 2013 had placed colorectal cancer in third place morbidity level and forth most lethal cancer globally. Understanding prognostic marker is essential to increase prognosis prediction in patients with colorectal cancer, especially in patient with the later stages. Several studies have reported the prognostic value of Ki67 expression in patient with colorectal cancer. Ki67 … Show more

“…Senescent or quiescent cells do not express detectable Ki67 levels [ 30 ]. Additionally, Ki67 expression is correlated to a decrease of tissue differentiation [ 31 ]. Hence, Ki67 can be used as marker for cancerous cells.…”

“…This study is consistent with most studies that have found an association between tumor rates in human malignancies and Ki67. (33,34) This protein expression is inhibited by disturbing the Wnt/β-catenin or NF-κB pathway, which the AvrA effector protein regulates and correlates with other proliferation activity. (35) This protein plays a role during the active phase of the cell cycle (G1, S, G2, and M phases) and vice versa during the resting phase (G0).…”
