Background and Purpose The National Responsibility Policy for Dementia Care was implemented in September 2017 in Korea. This study aimed to compare dementia incidence in Seoul and Gangwon-do before and after the implementation of this policy. Methods We extracted insurance claim data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service for people diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia for the first time in Seoul and Gangwon-do, Korea. We defined two enrollment groups based on the policy implementation date: 1) January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016 (Index 1, pre-implementation), and 2) January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018 (Index 2, post-implementation). Each group was followed up for 1 year from the time of enrollment. Then, we calculated hazard ratios to compare the incidence of dementia between the two groups, and between Seoul and Gangwon-do. Results In Seoul, the incidence of dementia was significantly lower in Index 2 than in Index 1 (hazard ratio [HR], 0.926; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.875–0.979). However, the incidence rate did not differ between the 2 groups (HR, 1.113; 95% CI, 0.966–1.281) in Gangwon-do. In Index 1, the incidence of dementia did not differ between Seoul and Gangwon-do (HR, 1.043; 95% CI, 0.941–1.156), but in Index 2, was significantly higher in Gangwon-do than in Seoul (HR, 1.240; 95% CI, 1.109–1.386). Conclusions After implementing the National Responsibility Policy for Dementia Care, the dementia incidence rate decreased significantly in Seoul, consistent with other studies, but not in Gangwon-do.

Sarkopenija je slabo istražena, a sve intrigantnija tema u psihijatriji, a osobito u psihogerijatriji. Cilj našeg rada bio je pregledati literaturu o sarkopeniji kod osoba oboljelih od demencije. Literatura je pretraživana korištenjem baza PubMed i Google Scholar. Demencija i sarkopenija dijele određene etiološke procese i rizične faktore. Kod oboljelih od demencije postoji povećani rizik za razvoj sarkopenije. Kao alat probira za sarkopeniju preporuča se SARC-F, a za postavljanje dijagnoze bioelektrična impedancija i dinamometar. U prevenciji i liječenju svoju ulogu imaju vježbe, prehrana bogata proteinima i proteinski dodatci. O mogućim biomarkerima sarkopenije potrebna su dodatna istraživanja. Valjalo bi provesti dodatna istraživanja i o najboljim alatima probira, kao i o dijagnostičkim kriterijima i sredstvima. Metode prevencije i liječenja također zahtijevaju dodatna istraživanja. Istraživanja svih ovih aspekata sarkopenije trebala bi obratiti više pažnje populaciji oboljelih od demencije./ Sarcopenia is a poorly researched, but increasingly intriguing topic in psychiatry, especially in psychogeriatrics. The aim of our study was to review the literature on sarcopenia in persons suffering from dementia. The literature was searched using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Dementia and sarcopenia share certain etiological processes and risk factors.People suffering from dementia have an increased risk of developing sarcopenia. SARC-F is recommended as a screening tool for sarcopenia, and bioelectrical impedance and dynamometer are recommended for diagnosis. Exercise, proteinrich diet and protein supplements play a role in prevention and treatment. Additional research is needed with regard to possible biomarkers of sarcopenia. Additional research should also be conducted regarding the best screening tools, as well as the diagnostic criteria and means used. Prevention and treatment methods require additional research as well.Research into all these aspects of sarcopenia should focus more on the population of individuals suffering from dementia.

Pulp stones signify the calcification of the discrete origin seen in the pulp tissues and are seen either embedded or attached to the dentin. Pulp stones can be a pathological or physiological entity. The pathogenesis of the pulp stone formation is idiopathic. However, various theories have been proposed. Pulp stone frequency is in the range of 8% to 90%. They are more identified on the histopathologic examination than radiographic assessment. The present study aimed to assess and correlate the histopathologic analysis and clinical parameters of the pulp stones to hyperlipidemia and systemic hypertension. The study assessed 140 subjects for the correlation of histopathologic analysis and clinical parameters of the pulp stones to hyperlipidemia and systemic hypertension. After inclusion, detailed case history was recorded for all the participants. This was followed by the radiographic assessment, and the pulp tissue after extirpation was sent for processing. The data gathered was statistically assessed with the Chi-square test and SPSS software. The study showed that on radiographic assessment, pulp stones were seen in 28 subjects and histopathologic assessment in 60 subjects among the total studied 140 subjects. Hyperlipidemia and hypertension were significantly associated with using nonlaminated and uneven varieties of pulp stone. The study concludes that subjects having irregularly shaped and nonlaminated pulp stones on histopathologic analysis should undergo assessment for systemic hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
