Role of conventional and molecular techniques in soybean yield and quality improvement: A critical review

Abstract: The soybean is one of the most significant legume crops around the globe and serves as a source of dietary components for humans and animals. It has a higher percentage of protein compared to any other crop. Soybean yield and quality have been affected by many environmental factors.  The genetic mechanism of yield and quality is still not clearly understood. Hence there is still a need to investigate the major potent factors to shed light on the mechanism behind yield and quality traits in soybean. Recently, a… Show more

“…Flooding stress greatly affected the yield of major crops comprising soybean ( Jo et al., 2022 ), rice ( Kumar et al., 2021 ), and wheat ( Winkel et al., 2017 ). Soybean is a significant legume crop grown worldwide for food, production of biofuel, and various other products due to its oil and protein contents ( Valliyodan et al., 2017 ; Yuhong et al., 2021 ; Rasheed et al., 2022 ). Flooding stress reduces relative water content, chlorophyll contents, stomatal conductance, and carotenoid contents, as well as the activity of antioxidant enzymes in plants ( Yang et al., 2011 ).…”

“…Available genotypes and technical infrastructure (agricultural machines, greenhouses, and experienced stuff) as well as breeding objective are deciding factors in method selection. Breeding objectives generally depend on the local agroecological conditions, available acreage, production intensity, market demand, and economical value [11][12][13].…”
